Steel stump installation
Steel stumps must be corrosion protected before placement in the concrete. The encased concrete must finish up 100mm above ground level and domed to prevent water ponding. This will help to prevent rusting (material deterioration) to the stumps and possible failure.
Our building inspector finds incorrect installation of steel stumps during building inspections all the time. Often there is only a small amount of rusting but then there is too high a percentage of those that require complete replacement to prevent failure of the stumps. This often ends up quite expensive and is so easily avoidable.
