Water Wise

In a drought period even small amounts of water around the footings can cause localised heaving. Moist areas encourage termites.
Good site drainage is essential. As a building inspector I recommend

a)  Ensure taps don't drip near footings

b)  No garden beds or watering adjacent to the house

c)  No leaky gutters and drain pipes

d)  No hot water system discharge

e)  All ground levels surrounding the house should fall away from the house

During our building insepctions we often find moist areas around the house and footings due to one of these.
All are preventable and will save you money in the long run.
